"It's totally awesome! I've been using Gallery Glass in my home for more than 2 decades and I just love it! My most recent project is as privacy glass in my bathroom. I'd had created stained glass window looks on my bathroom window back in 2000, but my children picked at it as they sat doing their business. It peels off easily once a lead line is lifted or a portion of paint gets peeled, so they lifted it right off. Years later, I'm finally in the process of creating, freehand, my new privacy glass on the window. My intention is to reverse the image on the top pane for the bottom pane which is, as you can see, currently still covered by a badly faded (year old only) vinyl-type privacy product. Soon to be remedied as I create the bottom pane! The quality is excellent. Transparency doesn't happen until the "paint" dries entirely, and will depend on how thick you apply it. Durability is great - see photo of large window - it was created in 2003 and has just barely faded even though it is in direct sunlight for at least half the day. When used as privacy glass in the bathroom, I tend to use a very thick coat of the paint. It took about 8 hours to completely dry. But if you don't paint it on so thick, it will dry fairly quickly, maybe an hour or so for the entire thing. Tip 1: When applying the lead lines, do not stretch them. They will curl and not stick well. I use an Exacto knife to cut them with precision. Tip 2: After laying the lead lines, apply the immitation lead (black paint) at each joint and allow to completely dry. Tip 3: If applying to an actual window (replacement windows like mine are removable) and you're able, take the window out and lay it on a table to do the lead and painting. Makes life SO much easier. I did this standing. After 8 hours of reaching over my head and squeezing my fat fanny between the window and the toilet, I was exhausted and sore. I'll be sitting at the dining room table to do the bottom pane! LOL Once dry, the paint does look and feel like real glass. I tried to catch a photo so you can see the "sheen". I put this stuff on very thick. It was completely opaque until it dried. Now it is translucent and shiny like glass. I hope it comes across for you! There are tons of patterns, but if you're even remotely artistic, you can do this without one!!! It's great stuff and so much fun! Try it! I highly recommend it!!!"

"Really fun and pretty! It does what it says, but there's a bit of a learning curve! A few things that I learned while doing my first project: - The faux lead lines need to be pretty thick so that they stick properly (I accidentally went too thin in some spots and had to redo them the next day). - Don't rub or swirl the paint to spread it. It'll cause bubbles in the finished product. You're better off squeezing it right out of the bottle and going back and forth with it and creating a big, thick coat that way. You'll get better, more even coverage, too. - Maybe obvious, but thinner coats will result in less pigment, and thicker coats will be more vibrant. - Make sure you rinse off or wipe off the cap once you're done if you want to reuse the set later on for another project, or It'll solidify in the tip and block the liquid from coming out."

"I love everything about this product! The brand is amazing, reliable, and there's SO MANY OPTIONS! I purchased multiple sets on Amazon through the company store page, but I also got some from local craft stores. The product was the same in all places I looked. I'll admit, some of them came with the seal broken and the paint leaked a little, but it was easy clean up, and was never that much. Other review stated issues with the paint drying in the tip, and that definitely happens, but it comes put super easy with a pin poked through the top. I'd 100% recommend! And don't be discouraged if you don't see colors you want, I mixed multiple of my own using the colors I now have, and it's lots of fun! One word of caution! Make a test strip of some sort before you do your project. The colors look amazingly different once dry. Also, the paint is going a long way! More than I thought, for sure."

Trish

"Absolutely obsessed with these paints! I bought this set from Amazon after having limited color options at my local Michael's. I also bought specific colors directly from the Plaid website that I couldn't find elsewhere. For reference, I'm not a painter, but I had several vases from my wedding left over and wanted to repurpose them as decor in some way. This was my 3rd project using these paints and I feel like I've found a hobby for life. I chose this brand because other glass paints that were available to me at Michael's required putting the glass in the oven to cure the paint, etc. Like I mentioned, I'm not a painter so that seemed a little daunting. Regardless, I feel like this brand is exactly what I was looking for. The liquid leading took some getting used to but once I figured that out, it was smoothe sailing. I would go as far as to say these were easy to use. The colors dried quickly and beautifully! I would recommend doing a swatch ahead of time with different levels of thickness just to see which paints are more opaque than others. Some also dried quicker than others which means you do need to work a little quickly if you plan to mix the colors. Plaid also has swatches of the paints on their website which I found to be accurate. I would also recommend trying it out on a flat surface first. This was how I started and it helped to get the hang of it before attempting a trickier surface. Definitely let the leading paint dry for the full 8 hours as recommended! It makes it a whole lot easier and cleaner to fill in the color. Happy painting!!"

"First time I tried glass windows acrylics and the results were amazing. You get a great combination of colors. Our local art stores have a very limited selection making this purchase the perfect buy. The colors were not dried out and the quality was amazing. Easy to use"

"Oh my goodness! I love these. I am someone who has made a hobby of collecting hobbies and this is one of my favorites. The paint quality is fantastic and lasts through so many uses. Even the black that is needed for most lining projects, it has lasted me 3 days of non-stop lining. The small bottles and pointed tip make the paint really easy to use with or without a paint brush. You can leave your designs on the glass or peel it off and move it as desired. I will definitely be buying these paints continuously."

Frequently Asked Questions

Gallery Glass is a line of dimensional, translucent paints by Plaid Enterprises that let you create the look of real stained glass on windows, mirrors, glass panels, and plastic surfaces. The paint dries to a smooth, glass-like finish that filters light beautifully.

Absolutely. Gallery Glass is designed to be beginner-friendly — just squeeze the paint directly from the bottle onto your surface. No brushes required. Starter kits come with patterns and plastic surfaces so you can practice before working on actual windows.

Gallery Glass works best on smooth, non-porous surfaces like glass windows, mirrors, picture frames, glass vases, jars, and the included plastic craft surfaces. Make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying.

Gallery Glass is semi-permanent. It dries to a flexible, textured finish and can be peeled off most smooth surfaces without damage. This makes it great for seasonal decorations or renters who want to customize without permanent changes.

Drying time depends on how thick you apply the paint. Thin coats can dry in about an hour, while thicker applications may take up to 8 hours to fully cure. The paint becomes transparent as it dries. Liquid Leading should dry completely (about 8 hours) before filling in with color.

Yes. Gallery Glass paints are water-based, non-toxic, and comply with ASTM D-4236 safety standards. They are safe for use by adults and children with supervision.

Liquid Leading is a thick paint that simulates the lead lines in traditional stained glass. Squeeze it directly from the bottle to outline your design, let it dry completely (8 hours recommended), then fill in the sections with colored Gallery Glass paint.

Yes! You can mix colors directly on your surface or on a separate palette to create custom shades. Many crafters enjoy experimenting with color blending. We recommend making a test strip first, as colors can look different once dry.

No special tools are required to get started — just the paint and a surface. However, the Gallery Glass Tool Set (scraper, pick, cutter, and scoop) makes it easier to fix mistakes, remove bubbles, and create cleaner edges.

Yes, most Gallery Glass products are available in multiple sizes and configurations. Individual paints come in 2 oz and 8 oz bottles, and kits range from 6 to 18 pieces. Click any product to see all available options.

Gallery Glass is quite durable. Many users report their projects lasting 10-20+ years, even in direct sunlight with only minimal fading. For outdoor-facing windows, applying to the inside surface will maximize longevity.

Gallery Glass pattern sets are available with traditional and floral designs. You can also create freehand designs or find inspiration from the crafting community online. No artistic experience is necessary — many patterns are simple geometric shapes.
